The Evening Economy

Location:
The Gallery, 70 Cowcross Street, London EC1M 6EJ
Date:
Wed, 21/03/2012 - 6:30pm

The evening economy can bring both vitality and identity to a town, and can be of particular importance when retail is faltering.

This UDG event will explore the best ways to encourage a vibrant evening economy, whilst addressing issues such as personal security, transportation and antisocial behaviour. We will consider whether there is a sensible limit to the intensity of activity and how the negative external impacts can be managed.

Speakers include Prof. Marion Roberts from University of Westminster, whose recent research work and publications have focused on the night-time/24 hour economy; Janice Gibbons from Islington Council with an overview of the Purple Flag Award scheme and her borough's involvement in it; and, providing a community perspective, Philip Kenyon from the South Shoreditch Residents Association.
